Did you know that natural plant fibre products like Sisal, Seagrass and Coir do not harbour dust mites or moths? They can’t live in them and can’t eat them making natural carpets one of the cleanest floor coverings you can put in your home and are excellent for people that suffer from asthma!

SISAL FLOORS & RUGS

Sisal is an organic fibre that can transform any interior. Available in a wide range of beautiful designs and colours, sisal is also strong and versatile; essentially, the best of both worlds. It is derived from the leaf fibre of the plant Agave Sisalana traditionally used for rope manufacture. The leaves are crushed, washed, dried and then the fibres are extracted and spun into a yarn. This yarn is then woven into an array of weave designs.

For use in most locations within the home apart from high moisture areas such as bathrooms and kitchens, sisal can be fully fitted like a carpet or made into a stunning, individual custom made rug or stair runner to your own size. Choose your own colour border from our comprehensive range in our Rug and Runner Creator program to give your rug or runner that sought after personal touch.

SEAGRASS FLOORS & RUGS

Inherently strong and resistant, seagrass is a grass grown in paddy fields and the fields are flooded with seawater during the growing season. After harvesting and drying, the seagrass is spun into a strong yarn suitable for weaving into a huge range of products like bags and baskets, and of course stylish natural woven flooring.

For use in most locations within the home apart from high moisture areas such as bathrooms and kitchens, seagrass flooring can be fully fitted wall to wall or made into a superb custom rug or runner to your own size. Choose your own border from our comprehensive range in our Rug Creator program for the perfect accompaniment to the beautifully textured seagrass.

COIR FLOORS

Made from the fibre taken from the husk of coconuts and spun by hand, coir is a natural solution for busy spaces. The fibre is strong, highly textured and is able to withstand all the wear and tear of modern life. Coming in three distinctive rustic designs, coir flooring looks fantastic in minimalistic and more traditional room settings alike.

For use in most locations within the home apart from high moisture areas such as bathrooms and kitchens, coir can be fitted wall to wall or crafted into  stunning bespoke stair runners.

JUTE FLOORING

Jute is created by washing and drying the strands of the Corchorus plant. Once dried in the sun, the strands are sent to spinning mills which create the natural yarns used to make the delicate patterns of our Jute range. Available in three stylish designs of Panama, Herringbone and Boucle, Jute is the softest of the plant fibre flooring and its natural uncoloured shade adds warmth to any room and interior design. Jute is ideally suited to low traffic areas like bedrooms  and should not be used in high moisture areas such as bathrooms or kitchens.

OCEAN CLEAR CARPETS

Ocean Clear Carpets is a brand new range we are launching at Sisal & Seagrass.
Split into three ranges, Pacific is made from 100% recycled plastic fishing nets, while both Atlantic North & South are composed of 100% recycled PET plastic bottles. The carpets come in three distinct weave options, Herringbone, Panama and Cut & Loop, as well as several luxurious colour choices.

Although this range drifts from our usual natural product, it still rides the wave of our sustainable, eco-friendly model. Helping to clear the oceans of plastic waste one square metre at a time.

Fading Advice

All Floorcoverings natural, man-made or other will fade over time when subjected to UV light. Direct sunlight over an extended period of time will inevitably have a bleaching effect on most fabrics and materials. With many homes now being designed with open plan living spaces, using large bifold doors and Velux windows, fabrics in our homes are more likely to be affected.

Natural floorcoverings (Sisal, Jute, Coir, Seagrass and wool etc.) are more prone to fading than synthetic fibres. Plant fibre products such as our range of sisal that uses natural dyes are less UV resistant than products that use manmade dyes. Sisal can be dyed to produce a wide range of attractive shades with generally good light fastness. However, in direct sunlight darker shades can be affected. If you are concerned about this, we would recommend that lighter shades are used in areas where there are large windows or patio doors, particularly if they are south facing. The use of window treatments, shades, blinds and curtains will of course help to mitigate fading. Our undyed Pure Wool, Coir and Jute ranges have similar light fastness to our sisal range and the same consideration should be applied when choosing these products. On all plant fibre natural products colour fastness is not guaranteed when the materials are subjected to UV light. If you have any concerns or are unsure about the best products to use in your space please feel free to contact one of our specialists on 02085580887 who will be more than happy to advise you.
