Cottage core isn’t a brand new trend as it has been a popular aesthetic for the last couple of years. The way it has been interpreted continues to evolve and adapt to suit our modern lifestyles. For example, the need to reuse, repurpose and renovate furniture plays beautifully into the rustic charms of this style.
When it first caught our eyes in 2020, it focused heavily on natural products, cottage style patterns, and colour palettes. Since then, we have seen it progress to incorporate modern notes, such as contemporary colour palettes and understated patterns. However, the ability of this trend to adapt to the tastes and minimalist or maximalist brigade makes it an accessible theme for modern and classic homes.
Bringing this look up to date, we thought we’d dust down our best patterns, grab some colours and provide some inspiration using our natural, sustainable floors and borders.

Romantic Gestures
The nod to nostalgia adds a romantic element to cottage core, and pairing it with blush pinks, rose reds, and dusty pastels are a great way to work this look.
We’ve paired this with our chunky Colossos Peat sisal and our herringbone cotton border in Azure.

Cottage core with a contemporary twist
Worried that cottage core means too much fuss and frills? We’ve paired the look back but still focused on the palettes and patterns that work beautifully with this look. Our Boucle carpets have a smaller weave and add a contemporary feel to floors and rugs. We’ve chosen the dark rich brown colours of Boucle Slate alongside the silvery tones of sisal Boucle Marble. When it comes to selecting borders, why not look at rich, dark contrasts such as the Jade Border constructed using popular herringbone patterns.

Inspired by nature
We’re all about natural products, so it’s no wonder this mood board picks up on our favourite cottage core principles.
Choosing a natural floor that picks up on an earthy palette works beautifully with nature-inspired prints and colour palettes. Those looking for the suede look without compromising on ethical sourcing can add a touch of colour to their rugs with our Faux Suede Caramel border.
