Our Eco Mission.

Sustainability is the driving force at Sisal & Seagrass, and is one of the core reasons that the company was brought into existence to begin with. As an online flooring retailer, focused on natural and sustainable materials we are always looking into new ways to reduce our impact on the planet including using recycled and recyclable wrapping and labelling materials, even our printing inks are vegetable dyes and our business premises runs off solar panels. We are always looking at ways to help the environment and cause as little impact on our planet as possible.

We decided that we want to find a way not just to limit our impact but also to give back to nature, and with this in mind we concluded we wanted to get involved in tree planting schemes. However, we didn’t want to just pick any old charity to partner with to achieve this goal, we wanted to find who we felt are the best, most ethical and most effective organisation out there, and with a lot of research from our environmentally conscious team at Sisal & Seagrass we believe we found that partner in the World Land Trust, one of the leading conservation charities.

So what sets them apart? Well probably the biggest factor that we looked into was biodiversity. We wanted to know that the trees planted through us weren’t just a token gesture, we wanted there to be real consideration into the species planted. Not just one species of tree, we wanted an organisation that considered the impact of the tree after it goes into the ground. Native species are key to the local wildlife that inhabit the area being able to thrive. On top of this we discovered that a wide variety of trees are essential to the health of the microbiome in the soil. Healthy soil alone is able to absorb approximately 25% of the world’s fossil fuel emissions each year; Without healthy soil our world will be plunged into chaos.

And finally we looked to partner with an organisation that truly cares about who it is partnered with. Green washing is becoming a major issue in today’s world, we don’t want to be lumped in with those using environmental contributions in order to improve their bad reputations. So another attractive aspect of working with World Land Trust is their due diligence process to ensure that the intentions and operations of the company match their values, we are pleased to say that we successfully passed that audit and promise to keep our values aligned with theirs.

We are always looking at further opportunities to give back to the planet that gives us our wonderful, majestic, beautiful home. Keep an eye out for future announcements on more ways that we are looking to increase our portfolio of environmentally friendly projects.
