Why Choose a Natural Rug?

One of the biggest benefits to rugs made from natural fibres is that they do not contain nasty chemicals. One of the little known facts about most carpet is that they contain VOCs. These toxic chemicals have links to poor health outcomes over time and are particularly bad for those who suffer with chemical sensitivities. Aside from being non-toxic there is also the sustainability factor. Reducing the amount of plastic we use and manufacture is vital to the betterment of our planets health. Natural carpets and rugs are typically made from plant fibres and so are a sustainable choice.

Why Do You Need Underlay For Fully Fitted Carpets?

There are a few reasons why it is important to use flooring underlay. Here we list them below.

  • Better longevity of your carpet
  • Softer feel underfoot
  • To help keep the carpet down

Natural carpets like sisal and seagrass tend to last around 15 years or more if fitted correctly. Underlay is an important part of this or any carpets life span as it helps manage the ware and tear of foot traffic.

Underlay like our RC Eco Natural Flooring Underlay adds 650mm of soft depth to your carpet. This not only helps your carpet last longer but it feels absolutely luxurious under foot.

Probably the most important factor is the role underlay plays when keeping your natural flooring flat. Sisal and seagrass carpets for all their benefits are difficult to keep stuck down. It is imperative  you choose the right underlay, heavy enough to prevent the carpet from curling up at the edges.

So if you are ordering a seagrass or sisal rug or any other natural choice you don’t need to worry about underlay. But remember if you are having the carpet fully fitted to your floor it is important you do.
