Cottage themed interior themes have been a mainstay of home design. Now, more than ever, the need for uncomplicated, calming and welcoming aesthetics has seen cottage-core top the charts in the design stakes. At its core, a sense of simplified design, harmony with nature, the environment, food and caring for people has made it a comforting style. In this months blog, we’re looking at four ways to include this look using our natural floors and rugs.

Ready to Welcome

Front doors are often neglected or given a token plant but consider adding a mat to set that cottage theme. Not only does it look welcoming and helps set the scene, but it’s also a great way of trapping unwanted muddy paws and footprints.

Uncomplicated

If the idea of chintz and clutter makes you shudder, then you will be pleased to know that cottage-core is a refined look that doesn’t need clutter or chintz to work. Consider a unifying palette of paint schemes to tie in mismatched furniture, such as this example with charcoal painted wardrobe and door.

Set the Scene

As this gorgeous picture from a recent customer shows, a well placed natural rug works beautifully in dining spaces. Dress tables and chairs with delicate patterns and work in neutral schemes to add that nod to cottage style. Don’t be frightened of upcycling or mismatching furniture, as it’s a great way of adding cottage vibes.

Calming Neutrals

Pair natural floors with painted furniture in light or warm neutrals for that calming cottage look. A few patterned elements such as feature wallpapers, soft furnishings and mismatched accessories can work beautifully.
